This year as a practice we have signed up for the ‘Green Impact Awards’ to promote sustainability. Sustainability is most often defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It has three main pillars: economic, environmental, and social.
Environmental sustainability is the ability to maintain rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely.
Economic sustainability is the ability to support a defined level of economic production indefinitely.
Social sustainability occurs when the formal and informal processes; systems; structures; and relationships actively support the capacity of current and future generations to create healthy and liveable communities. Socially sustainable communities are equitable, diverse, connected and democratic and provide a good quality of life.
Within Priory Medical Centre this means that we will be promoting sustainability wherever possible. This includes such initiatives as switching to 100% recycled printing paper, hand towels and tissues; promoting recycling for both patients and staff; reducing expenditure on overstock and over-ordering of office supplies; switching from plastic milk bottles to glass pints; highlighting social prescribing such as encouraging participation in Park Run, volunteering and much more.
We will be highlighting various issues throughout the year to get involved with and we hope you support us in this as much as possible! We only have one Earth and we must protect it for future generations.
