PROFILE

For the first 37 years, prior to the introduction of the National Health Service, the practice was run single-handed by Dr George Bogle. In 1948, Dr Bogle’s son John joined the practice and he and his father practised in partnership for 10 years. The practice then reverted to single-handed status for four years after Dr George Bogle’s retirement, until Dr Ian Bogle, John’s son, entered the partnership with his father. In the Autumn of 1972 the first woman doctor in the practice, Dr Louise England, replaced Dr John Bogle and for the first time ancillary staff, in the form of receptionists and a secretary, became part of the team. Over the ensuing decades many changes were made to the surgery premises, to try to make it possible to cope with the increasing number of patients who wished to attend the surgery. The practice list size increased to over 12,000 patients and in April 1999 the present purpose-built Medical Centre opened its doors and the original practice premises were sold. The pharmacy that was sited opposite the original practice is now run by Mrs Kim Forshaw from purpose-built premises adjoining Priory Medical Centre.
